I made this handy little basket the other day. It started out as a rug, but then it began to grow up instead of out. This inability to control the shape is a recurring theme in my crocheting projects. No worries, I decided, it will be a basket. To make a basket like this, choose a yarn that is somewhat sturdy and firm. A light twine or cord works well. Simply crochet a line and coil around and around it. When the base of the basket it the size you want it to be, tighten up your stitching so the yarn or twine starts to build its way up instead of out. Or, if you’re like me, start out making a rug and see where it takes you.
This basket also makes a beautiful little cap.
