Easy no-sew curtains for my kitchen!

Inspired by craft projects on Pinterest, I made these curtains yesterday. If I can do it, you can too!

First purchase/gather your materials:

Fabric, two wooden dowels that are almost as wide as your window, Stitch Witchery. Photo by Holly Tierney-Bedord.

Cut the fabric to fit the window, iron it so it’s nice and smooth, and then iron the edges so they are straight and flat.

Once both sides are ironed flat, permanently “glue” them together with Stitch Witchery. Be sure to make this a two step process instead of trying to fold your fabric and stick it together with the Stitch Witchery all at once; get the nice, straight seam ready and it will be like a little pocket to insert the Stitch Witchery into. Follow the instructions on the package.

Once both sides are done, set the dowel in place. This is going to be the top of the curtain. The dowel will not stay with the curtains but is being used as a placeholder, so you have a loop at the top of the curtain that your curtain rod will run through.

Now just remove the dowel and when you are ready to install your curtains you can insert a skinny tension rod in its place. Repeat this process for the bottom, but since that dowel will stay in place, make it a tight fit. The dowel at the bottom will give your curtain weight and keep it hanging smoothly, and will give it a more finished appearance.

I’m still trying to figure out how to make these go up and down. If that happens I will show you how I did it. Ta da! New curtains for under $20 in just a couple hours with enough fabric left over to do the smaller window above our kitchen sink!
